Terms of service

Last updated June 19, 2026

Agreement

These terms (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Lumera (“Lumera,” “we,” “us”) governing your use of the Lumera service at lumera.family and any associated apps or integrations. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

The service

Lumera is a privacy-first family operating system — a shared calendar, AI inbox, chores tracker, meal planner, gift registry, photo wall, and family wiki, designed to work across phones, tablets, and kitchen wall devices. We may add, change, or remove features at any time. We may also discontinue the service entirely on reasonable notice.

Accounts and family members

You create a family by signing up with an email address and a password. The signing-up adult holds the encryption keys for the family and can invite other adults and children as members.

  • You're responsible for keeping your password safe. Without recovery escrow enabled, Lumera cannot recover access if you forget your password.
  • Adults invited into a family are bound by these Terms when they accept the invitation.
  • Children's access is provisioned and supervised by the parent / guardian account holders. Parents are responsible for the family's use of the service by minors.
  • You must be at least the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction (13 in the US under COPPA, 16 in most of the EU under GDPR) to hold a parent / guardian account on your own.

Acceptable use

You agree NOT to use Lumera to:

  • Break the law or facilitate breaking the law.
  • Upload content that infringes others' copyright, privacy, or other rights.
  • Distribute malware, attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service, or interfere with its operation.
  • Send unsolicited bulk email through Lumera's broadcast affordances. The host-broadcast feature is for communicating with the specific guests who RSVPed to your event; using it for anything else may result in account suspension.
  • Reverse-engineer the service, except as expressly permitted by law.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

Your content

You retain all rights to the content you put into Lumera (events, photos, notes, recipes, gift lists, RSVPs, etc.). You grant Lumera only the rights we need to operate the service for you: specifically, to store your encrypted content, run it through the AI classifier you submit, render it inside the family's authorized devices, sync it to the calendar providers you connect, and deliver email notifications you initiate.

We do not use your content for advertising, do not sell it to third parties, and do not train AI models on it. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Third-party integrations

Lumera can connect to third-party services (Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCloud, etc.) on your authorization. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms; we're not responsible for outages, data loss, or policy changes on their side. Disconnecting an integration stops the sync but does not delete content that already synced.

Pricing and payment

Lumera may offer free and paid plans. Pricing, included features, and limits are described at sign-up and on the marketing pages. Paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel at any time in Settings; you keep access through the end of the billing period.

Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete account. We may suspend or terminate access for material breach of these Terms, suspected fraud, or extended inactivity. When an account ends, the privacy guarantees in our Privacy Policy still apply.

Warranties and liability

Lumera is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lumera disclaims all warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We're not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or business opportunity. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and (b) USD $50.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes are announced in-app or by email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after the changes take effect means you accept them.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which Lumera is incorporated, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Disputes will be resolved in the courts of that state.
